Have you ever heard of Kitten Season before?
No? Well you are not alone, most people aren’t aware that this phenomena even exists.
If you are an animal lover and you care about cats here are some facts and figures that you need to know about “Kitten Season”
- Kitten Season is the unofficial name for the mating season for cats and it lasts from end of March until November.
- An unneutered female cat will go into heat every 3 weeks;
- One mother cat can produce 18 kittens in one season;
- A female cat can begin having kittens at 6 months old;
- In 7 years 1 female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats!!
- During Kitten Season the number of kittens far exceeds the number of homes available; many of the kittens are wild or feral and never have homes;
- During Kitten Season you will see signs everywhere for Kittens available, they are given away, thrown away and are dumped in boxes and bins and they endup in animal welfare organisations like the Dublin SPCA;
