Anyone who relies on Skype for work were left shaking their heads yesterday morning when the service went down and stayed down. Skype has ‘fessed up to the problems:

“Our engineering team has determined that it’s a software issue,” says a statement on its blog. “We expect this to be resolved within 12 to 24 hours. Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

They have also temporarily stopped downloads of the Skype software also. The above message was posted just after 2pm GMT, meaning that potentially Skype won’t be up and running again until sometime today.
