A new version of WordPress was released yesterday – version 3.1. It contains bug fixes, the developers speak of more than 729 closed issues, new features and several interface changes and enhancements.
Among the new features is an overhauled writing interface and the option to link to existing content easier. This is done via the standard link button in the WordPress writing panel and the selection of “Or link to existing content”.
It is now possible to search for related content or select one of the most recent items. Another addition is the new admin bar that is displayed to WordPress administrators when they navigate the WordPress frontend.
For more information on the new version head over to the write up on WordPress.org

So, another security upgrade is out for WordPress. This one is fairly urgent, as it allows other members of your blog to “hijack” posts not written by them. Please upgrade to the latest version of WordPress, back up your blog, and as the post also mentions, change your passwords regularly. From what I can tell, there shouldn’t be any adverse effects from this update, so get to it Here

Yep I know, everyone has one of these lists on their blog. But below are 5 that aren’t usually seen in the those ‘Top 10 Plugins for WordPress’ articles on other blogs.
1. WordTube:
I’ve searched high & low for a plugin to manage my media files, both audio & video. This plugin is brilliant and took me ages to find. It has a media control section under WordPress – Manage and allows direct uploading of your files to a directory of your choice. All you do then is insert a media tag it gives you for the file you uploaded. Easy Peasy!.
If your looking for an easy plugin to use to add a list of your Top Read Posts to your blog sidebar then this one is for you.
3. Collapsible Categories Widget:
At some point everyones blog is going to have a multitude of categories. There is nothing more off putting than a massive list down one side of your blog of endless categories. The Collapsible Category Plugin is brilliant for reducing your lists to just the top categories with a + sign beside to unfold a list below it of sub-categories (you can see it in action on this site).
4. AFD WordPress2 Admin Theme Plugin:
I’m not the greatest fan of the default admin area for the wordpress system so this plugin changes the default admin area to a nice look and feel thats easy on the eye and easy to navigate.
5. Batch Categories:
This plugin is great if your like me and suddenly want to move some of your existing posts to a more relatively named category. Simply click the ones you want to move and select the new category name. Very easy.
