Yes so it’s Work Life Balance Day today apparently….brilliant, not only are we all working for free today as its an extra day in the year, but they are rubbing it in as well by highlighting that we should be more aware of balancing out our work and play time!…A day off today would have been a bloody good start!.

Urban Legend: The February 29th Proposal!

The Legend: Custom allows marriage-minded gals to propose to their boyfriends on February 29.

Legend says that St. Patrick started the tradition when St. Bridget complained that women were fed up with waiting for men to propose (and I’m going to stay well clear of speculating on how attractive 5th century Irish women were). He agreed to let women propose during a leap year (some say choosing the leap year because it was the longest giving the women an extra day, while others say it was restricted to 29th February).

Another theory is that 29th February was not recognised by English law and had no legal status. It was therefore assumed that certain laws and traditions could be ignored on that day – and this included the tradition that men should do the proposing.

What is known is that a law was passed in Scotland in 1288 to allow women to propose during the leap year. The law also included a clause stating that men who refused the proposal should pay a fine, either monetary or an item of fine clothing. This doesn’t seem terribly fair for the man… refuse and pay a fine, accept and cough up for an engagement ring.

Hmm a load of bollox in my option, however ladies if you’ve the brass neck to propose to yer fella today, best of luck.

Joke: In a Vacuum

A blonde was playing Trivial Pursuit one night. It was her turn. She rolled the dice and she landed on Science &Nature. Her question was, “If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?”

She thought for a time and then asked, “Is it on or off?”

Ireland finally sees arrival of the iPhone

iphone.jpgThe long-awaited Apple iPhone is to go on sale in Ireland on 14 March in O2 stores and Carphone Warehouse outlets, it was revealed on Thursday.

The device will be made available on the O2 network and will come in an 8GB model for EUR399, including VAT, and a 16GB model for EUR499, including VAT. O2 is also introducing three iPhone tariffs, starting at EUR45, which include anytime minutes, texts and a 1GB data bundle.

Irish consumers have been waiting months for the device, which launched in the US in June 2007 and in the UK in November. However, if sales across the rest of Europe are anything to go by, O2 may have some difficulty in shifting large volumes of the iPhone.

Nintendo Prices Wii Fit at €90 for Europe!

wii-fit-3.jpg

Nintendo has just released information on price points for the Wii Fit, due out on April 25th. It will cost €89.99 here and across Europe. Seems a little unfair that the Americans are getting their Wii Fit for about €15 euro cheaper if you do the conversion! The game will come with the Wii Balance Board, a device which will hopefully be used in conjunction with some other game further down the line.

Hmm seems a bit pricey to me!
